Are you ready to become a certified Adventure and Nature Therapy practitioner? Picture yourself training in the breathtaking South African wilderness, where your learning journey is deeply enriched by nature’s power. This is your opportunity to turn your passion for the outdoors into a rewarding career in therapeutic practice. We’ve designed a special edition of our Level 1 certification in partnership with EducoAfrica, an organization with over 30 years of experience empowering young people from disadvantaged communities. Through transformative rites of passage in the “School of Lost Borders” tradition, EducoAfrica has helped individuals discover and unlock their full potential.
This 8-day experiential module in the African wilderness will immerse you in practices that deepen personal awareness and strengthen your connection to nature’s astonishing healing qualities. The second part of the training will focus on reflective practices and therapeutic techniques that promote sustainable, lasting impact for clients. During these 8 days, we will learn how Nature can help us as a co-therapist, and how to to design safe and effective Adventure & Nature Therapy interventions.
Following the immersive South African experience, you will complete 8 hours of in-presence online theory, 8 hours of self-organized learning, and 2 individual supervision hours to consolidate your insights. Contact us for more details about the full certification process and to determine if you are eligible for the training.
And if that’s not enough, stay tuned for an upcoming workshop in December ‘25 on “The Therapeutic Power of Wilderness Quests”! Key learning objectives and competencies of Level 1 This special edition equips participants with the skills and knowledge to harness nature’s therapeutic power, using it as a co-therapist in both individual and group settings. Participants will explore ecopsychology principles and design effective adventure-based therapy programs, learning how to use nature to foster emotional, psychological, and physical healing. They will gain hands-on experience facilitating transformative adventure challenges and reflective practices while ensuring the safety of clients through effective risk management in wilderness settings. In addition to therapeutic techniques, the training emphasizes group dynamics, cultural sensitivity, and the importance of creating an emotionally safe environment in adventure and nature therapy.
The training fosters personal growth and self-awareness, with immersive wilderness experiences that deepen participants' connection to nature. This personal development enhances their ability to guide clients through transformative healing processes. By the end of the training, participants will be equipped with the tools to design, and facilitate, effective nature and adventure therapy programs, making a lasting impact in both their personal and professional lives. Area and Animals: Up until about 100 years ago, the land was inhabited by the Khoi San people, the original inhabitants of the Western Cape, as well as regions of Southwest and Northern South Africa, Namibia, and Botswana. These nomadic hunters and gatherers moved with the seasons, traveling between the ocean and the mountains. Although the area is now a wilderness reserve, it is important to note that the "Big Five" animals are not native to the Western Cape. The Groot Winterhoek is home to baboons, black and fish eagles, small gemsbok, klipspringer, lizards, dassies, snakes, genets, the Cape leopard, and a variety of other smaller, beautiful creatures.
