Together with the course MHFA (Mental Health First Aid) from 24.10. - 26.10.2025 you secure part of the prerequisite for the ATI degrees.
Accidents and crises can occur at any time in natural environments. Especially those responsible for outdoor experiential and nature therapy programs should be able to deal with emergencies and crises safely and professionally. Participants who suffer from psychosocial illnesses or are handicapped should be particularly protected and special risk management is required. This requires thorough and competent preparation.
The “Outdoor First Aid and Crisis Support in Adventure and Nature Therapy Programs” course can be combined with the “Mental Health First Aider (MHFA)” course. You will learn and train emergency skills and crisis management in lively role-plays using typical scenarios from experiential and nature therapy practice.
From dealing with fractures, hyperventilation, hypoglycemia, asthma, epilepsy and allergic shocks to managing symptoms such as anxiety, stress, trauma and dealing with groups/group dynamics in accident and crisis situations.
You will develop your skills in the following areas:- First aid in experiential and nature therapy situations
- Supporting participants with psycho-social pre-existing conditions in crisis situations
- Self-protection, emergency call, rescue
- Immediate measures at the scene of an accident and checking consciousness, breathing and pulse
- Treatment of injuries, brain, circulatory and temperature-related disorders and poisoning
- Arrangements with all parties involved (emergency management), dealing with institutions and the press
The “Mental Health First Aider (MHFA)” course differs from the above-mentioned course in that it explicitly addresses mental health hazards. In experiential and nature therapy programs, we MUST assume that excessive demands will occur and that these will manifest themselves in acute psychological phases.
In these phases, it is important to calmly, systematically and purposefully accompany those affected to a psychologically safe state and, if necessary, seek professional help.
In experiential and nature therapy programs, we are responsible for ensuring and safeguarding mental, social and emotional well-being. In order for this to succeed in an emergency, you as the accompanying professionals need more competence and confidence in your actions.
More will happen than you think... And you can help better than you think.
“Crisis can be a productive state. You just have to take away the taste of disaster.”
