Abstract: In this publication, a palynostratigraphic model is presented for the basal Permian clastic succession of southeastern Turkey and its equivalents in Iraq. Both sequences are located on the northern Arabian Plate (northern Gondwana area). This palynostratigraphic model permits correlation of the siliciclastic deposits and a relatively high-resolution dating, allowing, within the Guadalupian, the mid and late Wordian, and early Capitanian ages to be differentiated. At its coarsest resolution a relative age assignment (older or younger than late Wordian) can be obtained using marker species such as Verrucosisporites sp. cf. V. planiverrucatus, Diaphanospora rutbaensis, and significant large Calamospora and Laevigatosporites species.
The applicability of the palynostratigraphic model has already been proven in regional correlation ……
Keywords: Turkey, Southeast Anatolia, Kas Formation, Hazro area, Wordian, Capitanian, Guadalupian, Iraq, Arabian Plate, northern Gondwana, correlation, palynology, stratigraphy, Ga’ara Depression, Ga ara Formation, Jordan, Um Irna Formation, Oman, Huqf area, Permian.
