Welcome to the learning unit "Fundamentals of Steels". This is the second unit in the first block of the steel seminar. The content covered here is a prerequisite for understanding the subsequent units! Please check whether you have already achieved the learning objectives and then proceed to the next unit. This unit requires the learning objectives from the unit "Fundamentals of Materials Science".
Have fun with the "Fundamentals of Steels"!
Learning objectives:
# You understand the definition of steel and describe the basic properties of the iron-carbon alloy.
# You describe the iron-carbon diagram and describe which phases are build depending on the chemical composition and can also recognize them based on microstructural images.
# You describe the most important heat treatment procedures, describe which objectives are aimed to achieve by them and you can give an overview which temperature regimes need to be applied for them.
# You describe the influence of rapid cooling on the phase formation mechanisms and can describe, which nonequilibrium phases are build.
