Finding Ease with the Alexander Technique – How It Works and How It Can Help You

My Alexander-Coaching follows the principle: "How I treat my body is how I treat myself, and how I treat myself determines how I relate to the world and other people". Changing reactive patterns in the body enables you to be at ease when life presents you and your body with challenging or stressful situations.

I am Valentin Kannicht, teacher for improved body-use, certified by the German Alexander Technique Association (ATVD), graduate of the "Training to Teach Online" program in functional anatomy and expert in the Primal Alexander™ approach. I offer my clients practical techniques in mostly online sessions. I am skilled in observing body-use on the screen and coaching my clients to develop a healthier way of using their body in their daily activities. My clients report reduced pain through a better aligned body with a more responsive muscular tone, as well as enhanced mental wellbeing. Many say they feel more at home in their bodies after working with me. They look forward to the future with more confidence.

Here is what clients say about how I helped them:

"Alexander Technique online with Valentin is the single-best thing I’ve ever done for my health. I have scoliosis and have been in two car accidents. Before Alexander Technique with Valentin every bump or trip would scare me, no longer! If I wake up with a stiff neck in the morning, my mind calmly tells me that its nothing to worry about… What pain I do have is no longer a barrier to having a happy and productive day.”

Laura López-Hoffman, Professor, University of Arizona, U.S.

"It is very comforting to leave the session with such a positive energy. The wellbeing I feel helps me to continue with my daily goals and live them from a different perspective. Living in the present and feeling my body relaxed and calm is making me enjoy every moment more."

Diego García Jiménez, Trumpet Student at the Conservatorio Superior de Salamanca, Spain

"The Alexander Technique has helped me become more aware of my own body, to break through old movement patterns and to integrate a certain lightness into my daily routine. Valentin's approach is both systematic and sensitive. He pays attention to individual circumstances and creates a pleasant atmosphere in which you can develop freely. Released tension and a more relaxed posture are the results that make me continue booking online sessions with him."

Sascha Huditz, GIS Data Analyst/ API Developer, Germany

"Studying the Alexander Technique online with Valentin has brought me more in touch with my body – or, better, my embodied self – and how I use it in daily life. It has also helped me manage and begin to fix shoulder issues (related to posture and tension) that neither yoga, nor strength training, nor meditation had eased. I had initial doubts about online classes, but Valentin's sensitive observation and clear explanations have overcome the potential barrier, and the ability to record sessions makes practice and self-observation much easier. I wholeheartedly recommend his classes to anyone suffering from stress or work-related bodily strain, or simply anyone looking to be more aware of how they move through everyday life."

Michael Reid, PhD Student in Literary Studies, University of Tübingen, GermanyWorking with AT provides me with immediate calm and well-being, which helps me to successfully manage everyday situations in both personal and professional environments.

"As a person with functional diversity (reduced mobility), we work to achieve greater stability in my posture, as well as to try to achieve greater lightness and fluidity in movement, experimenting in everyday situations, in order to avoid adding unnecessary tension as much as possible. After a year of practice, I feel a greater sense of well-being, particularly in situations that are physically demanding for me, as well as positive changes in my perception and body awareness. I am convinced that these are the first promising steps on the way to an improvement in my quality of life.

Professionally, as a university lecturer, I have found it very striking to see that not only have I improved my communication skills in the classroom and in other kinds of public performance, but, by applying specific strategies such as “the cycle” in situations where I perceive some hostility or aggressiveness from other people, I achieve, in a matter of seconds, inner calm and voice control, an improvement in my posture and an increase in my capacity for empathic listening, which ultimately proves to be an effective way to successfully manage conflict situations. Thank you, Valentin."

M. Montserrat Martínez-Ortega, Professor of Botany, University of Salamanca

"Valentin's online-course <<Strong Back in 8 Weeks>> is a very good mixture of targeted practicing in the here and now and a mindful observation of the actual state you are in, yet it is always clear where the journey should go. Without hocus-pocus, true to life and anatomically informed, and yet with the potential to fundamentally change the way you are in the world."

Judith Schmid, Psychotherapist in training, Germany

"I have practised the Technique for several years, and I find Valentin's approach very modern, documented, varied and enormously stimulating. I am discovering and using tools that are lead me to better self-knowledge and greater mastery over my response to the stimuli that surround us. I am noticing benefits such as greater calm and control during work, less tiredness, no fatigue or pain after long rehearsals, and a more open, receptive and yet calm attitude towards the orchestras and musicians I work with. I would recommend looking at the Alexander Technique and trying a few sessions to any fellow musician. Valentin is an ideal and highly qualified teacher to accompany the steps of any student at any level."
